Engineering Energy were commissioned to resolve two problems at Weir End care home which were causing operational problems.
1. There were frequent incidents when the site would run low on hot water.
2. There was a strong smell of heating oil in part of the accommodation.
We surveyed the site and found the existing provision for hot water was dependent on a 250ltr electrically heated water cylinder, this did not have a fast enough recovery rate to meet the demand of the occupancy. The heating to the property was provided by two old oil fired boilers located in a basement below several accusation rooms.
Our solution to these problems has been to remove the 250ltr electrical cylinder and the two hot water boilers and replace with two new high efficacy external oil boilers located in a secure compound adjacent to the property. The new boilers service three zones through a new hydraulic separator (Low Loss Header). Two heating zones service the accommodation and the third zone provides heat to the two 185ltr fast recovery water heaters located in the basement.
The new system provided additional hot water with full recovery rate of 20 min, the oil boilers are now located externally removing the smell of oil from the accommodation.
This solution has resolved the issues with heating and hot water, delivered energy savings and fully updated the provision of services to the property.
